Egypt Launches First AI Readiness Assessment Report with UNESCO and EU Support

Egypt has published its first-ever AI Readiness Assessment Report, developed by the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology (MCIT) in partnership with UNESCO Cairo and backed by European Union (EU) funding.

The report provides a comprehensive review of Egypt’s legal, policy, institutional, and technical environment, mapping both strengths and gaps in the country’s digital transformation journey. It emphasizes a human-centred, responsible approach to artificial intelligence that prioritizes ethical governance and inclusive development.

EU representatives commended Egypt’s growing leadership in ethical AI governance and reaffirmed their support for the country’s inclusive digital transition. The collaboration is expected to expand in areas such as digital policy alignment, institutional reforms, and capacity-building initiatives.

Designed as a roadmap for future reforms and investment, the assessment aims to ensure that AI adoption in Egypt supports sustainable development, safeguards rights, and delivers benefits across all segments of society.
