Dhiraagu has successfully hosted the SEA-ME-WE 6 Global Consortium Meeting in the Maldives, uniting leading international telecom and digital service providers to discuss progress on the SEA-ME-WE 6 submarine cable project. The meeting began last Tuesday and concluded today, underscoring the strategic importance of this global connectivity initiative.
The SEA-ME-WE 6 submarine cable will link Southeast Asia, the Middle East, and Western Europe, providing millions across the regions with high-speed internet and enhanced communication services. For the Maldives, Dhiraagu’s investment ensures direct access to major internet exchange points and data centers in South Asia, the Middle East, and Europe, strengthening the nation’s digital infrastructure and enabling its ongoing digital transformation.
At the welcome event, Dhiraagu CEO and Managing Director Ismail Rasheed emphasized the project’s significance, noting that it will accelerate the Maldives’ economic development by empowering connectivity and digital growth.
The SEA-ME-WE 6 consortium brings together global leaders including Batelco (Bahrain), BSCCL (Bangladesh), Bharti Airtel (India), China Unicom, Djibouti Telecom, Microsoft (USA), Mobily (Saudi Arabia), Orange (France), PCCW Global, Syntel (Singapore), Sri Lanka Telecom, Telecom Egypt, Telekom Malaysia, Telin (Indonesia), and Trans World Associates (Pakistan). Collectively, these companies are driving one of the most ambitious submarine cable projects in the world.
