Muscat – Oman’s Environment Authority (EA) has introduced a National System for the Management, Monitoring and Tracking of Radioactive Sources and Nuclear Materials, a groundbreaking initiative to enhance environmental safety and regulatory oversight. The project, central to three strategic contracts signed last week, underscores Oman’s digital transformation agenda and commitment to Vision 2040 sustainability goals.
The new system will leverage artificial intelligence, IoT, and big data analytics to provide real-time monitoring of radiation levels nationwide. It will improve regulatory compliance, streamline licensing and reporting, and ensure radiation safety in line with both national regulations and international standards.
In addition, the EA signed two other contracts:
- Modernising External Electronic Services, which will create a unified digital platform hosting environmental databases, studies, monitoring data, and compliance records, boosting transparency and public access.
- Planning and Management System for Resources and Operations, designed to automate internal processes, reduce human error, and enhance financial planning and budget management.
Officials emphasized that the three projects together represent a comprehensive upgrade of Oman’s environmental governance framework. They reaffirm the sultanate’s commitment to sustainability, advanced service delivery, and robust environmental protection while laying the foundation for digital innovation in environmental management.
