Batelco Launches Bahrain’s First Eco-SIM Cards Made from 100% Recycled Plastic

Batelco by Beyon has become the first operator in Bahrain to introduce Eco-SIM cards made entirely from recycled plastic, marking a major step in the company’s sustainability strategy. The initiative aligns with Beyon Group’s wider environmental goals and reinforces Batelco’s commitment to reducing its ecological footprint.

The new Eco-SIMs are produced from recycled polystyrene, sourced mainly from discarded refrigerators and appliances. Once they reach end of life, the SIMs themselves can be recycled to create new cards, forming a circular economy model that reduces virgin plastic use and lowers CO2 emissions.

By transitioning all new SIM cards to Eco-SIMs, Batelco aims to significantly reduce plastic waste and actively support Bahrain’s environmental protection efforts.

Commenting on the milestone, Batelco highlighted the balance between sustainability and consumer demand: “While eSIM adoption continues to grow, many customers still rely on physical SIM cards. The Eco-SIM launch ensures we provide an environmentally responsible option that complements ongoing sustainability initiatives across Beyon.”

The company emphasized that the launch is part of a broader green innovation journey, showcasing its proactive role in tackling environmental challenges and promoting sustainable solutions in Bahrain’s telecom sector.
