Bharti Airtel’s AI-Powered Anti-Fraud Measures Slash Cybercrime Losses by Nearly 69%

Bharti Airtel announced that its anti-fraud initiatives have led to a substantial reduction in cybercrime incidents, a success validated by the Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Centre (I4C) under the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA). According to I4C data, Airtel recorded a 68.7% decline in financial losses and a 14.3% drop in overall cybercrime cases on its network between September 2024 and June 2025.

In September 2024, Airtel pioneered India’s first network-based AI-powered spam detection solution, designed to alert customers in real time to suspicious spam calls and SMS messages. In May 2025, Airtel further advanced its fraud prevention strategy by launching the world’s first solution to detect and block malicious links across all communication channels in real time. Both services are automatically enabled for Airtel’s mobile and broadband customers at no additional cost.

The initiatives have already shown measurable impact. Over the past year, Airtel’s systems have identified 48.3 billion spam calls and blocked 320,000 fraudulent links, protecting millions of customers.

Gopal Vittal, Vice Chairman and Managing Director of Bharti Airtel, said: “We are on a mission of eliminating spam and financial frauds for our customers. While the progress so far is encouraging, we see this as just the beginning of a larger fight. We will continue to innovate and invest until our networks are entirely free of digital spam and scams.” He commended the MHA-I4C and the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) for their collaboration in combating cybercrime.
