Iran has unveiled its first AI-powered legal robot, RoboLegal, marking a major milestone in using smart technology to make legal services more accessible. Designed to provide quick legal advice through both voice and text, RoboLegal enables citizens with varying levels of legal knowledge to interact easily with the system.
Expanding Access to Justice
The platform lowers barriers to legal help for people who cannot afford lawyers or live far from major cities. Drawing on a vast collection of Iranian legal cases, RoboLegal delivers accurate, locally relevant advice. Beyond helping citizens, it can also assist judges and lawyers by handling simple tasks, cutting costs, and expediting court cases—benefiting businesses and the wider economy.
Local Innovation, Local Impact
Unlike imported systems, RoboLegal was built with Iran’s legal and cultural context in mind, ensuring high accuracy and relevance. Its launch comes as part of Iran’s broader digital transformation strategy, which has already digitized 201 general public services and 734 specialized services across areas such as healthcare, education, agriculture, and judiciary.
Thriving Tech Ecosystem
The initiative reflects Iran’s growing startup and innovation ecosystem, powered by more than 45 science and technology parks and 600 innovation centers. Local firms like Skyroom (edtech), Digikala (e-commerce), and Cafe Bazaar (apps) are driving regional competition, while sectors such as fintech, smart health, and smart insurance continue to expand. RoboLegal joins this momentum, showing how AI can serve not only economic goals but also pressing social needs like justice and fairness.
Looking Ahead
Iran’s use of AI in the public sector is expected to grow beyond legal services, with potential applications in governance, data analysis, and citizen services. RoboLegal exemplifies how AI can enhance transparency, reduce bureaucracy, and promote equal access to justice, positioning Iran as a rising hub of AI-driven innovation in West Asia.
