Dhiraagu Hosts SEA-ME-WE 6 Consortium Meeting to Advance Global Connectivity

Dhiraagu, the Maldives’ leading digital and telecom service provider, has successfully hosted the SEA-ME-WE 6 Global Consortium Meeting, bringing together major international operators to advance one of the world’s most significant submarine cable projects. The week-long meeting, which began last Tuesday and concluded today, focused on progress and collaboration around the SEA-ME-WE 6 system.

The SEA-ME-WE 6 cable will enhance connectivity between Southeast Asia, the Middle East, and Western Europe, delivering faster internet speeds and improved communication services for millions of users. For the Maldives, Dhiraagu’s investment ensures direct access to key internet exchange points and data centers across South Asia, the Middle East, and Europe, bolstering the nation’s digital transformation and economic growth.

At a welcome event, Dhiraagu CEO and Managing Director Ismail Rasheed emphasized the project’s national importance. “This is a project of great importance to Dhiraagu. It will support the digital transformation of the Maldives and contribute significantly to economic development across the nation,” he said.

The SEA-ME-WE 6 consortium brings together leading global telecom and digital players, including Batelco (Bahrain), BSCCL (Bangladesh), Bharti Airtel (India), China Unicom, Djibouti Telecom, Microsoft (USA), Mobily (Saudi Arabia), Orange (France), PCCW Global, Syntel (Singapore), Sri Lanka Telecom, Telecom Egypt, Telekom Malaysia, Telin (Indonesia), and Trans World Associates (Pakistan). Their combined expertise is driving the success of this ambitious project, set to become a cornerstone of regional and global digital infrastructure.
