Egypt to Triple Local Mobile Production in 2025, Advances AI Strategy

Egypt’s local mobile phone production is set for a major boost, with output expected to reach 9 million units in 2025, up from 3.5 million in 2024, according to Minister of Communications and Information Technology Amr Talaat. Fourteen factories are now in operation nationwide, including facilities producing four of the country’s five most popular mobile brands. Export initiatives are planned to begin next year following ongoing domestic market tests.

In addition to hardware growth, Talaat highlighted progress in Egypt’s artificial intelligence roadmap. Under the first national AI strategy (2019–2024), Egypt advanced 46 places in global AI readiness rankings. The newly launched second phase (2024–2029) prioritizes expanding computing infrastructure for government agencies and startups, as well as strengthening data governance frameworks to safeguard privacy and regulate data usage.

These dual initiatives position Egypt to both scale its digital manufacturing capabilities and accelerate its role as a regional hub for AI innovation and governance.
