Jordan imported around 1.17 million mobile phones valued at JD106 million (USD 149.5 million) during the first eight months of 2025, according to Ahmed Alloush, President of the Vision Association of Mobiles and Accessories Investors (Vision). This compares with 1.22 million devices worth JD101.2 million during the same period in 2024.
Alloush explained that while import quantities fell slightly, the overall value remained stable due to a rise in the average price per device, which climbed to JD91.7 in 2025, up from JD83.3 in 2024. Imports in July and August alone accounted for 311,508 devices worth JD27.1 million.
Breaking down the figures, the first half of 2025 saw imports worth JD79 million for 861,000 devices, compared with JD75 million for 900,000 devices in the same period of 2024. In 2023, imports totaled JD73.8 million for 729,000 devices, highlighting fluctuating demand alongside shifts in pricing.
Despite this year’s stability, Jordan’s mobile phone imports have been on a steady decline since 2020, falling from JD221.3 million in 2020 to JD153.6 million in 2023 — a drop of nearly 31% in three years. Alloush attributed this downward trend primarily to the 16% special tax imposed on mobile devices, which raised retail prices, reduced consumer demand, and affected sales volumes.
