Muscat — Vodafone Oman has become the first operator in the Sultanate to launch PKI-enabled eSIMs, bringing advanced mobile authentication to digital SIM technology for the first time. The move ensures customers using eSIM-ready devices can securely access essential government, banking, and healthcare services without disruption.
Previously, PKI (Public Key Infrastructure) — the gold standard for secure authentication — was only available on physical SIM cards. As major device makers such as Apple, Samsung, and Huawei transition to eSIM as the default, Vodafone Oman has closed a critical security gap by extending PKI functionality to eSIMs.
“As the industry accelerates toward eSIM-only devices, PKI remains the foundation of secure authentication in Oman,” said Mohamed Al Hakmani, Head of Product Management at Vodafone Oman. “By enabling PKI on eSIMs, we’re removing barriers between innovation and security, allowing customers to adopt the latest devices while maintaining full access to trusted services.”
For consumers, PKI-enabled eSIMs combine the convenience of digital connectivity with the assurance of national security standards. For institutions, they provide confidence that ministries, banks, and enterprises can continue to support eSIM adoption while maintaining compliance with Oman’s security framework. Customers can upgrade through the My Vodafone App or by visiting Vodafone stores nationwide.
Since launching in March 2022, Vodafone Oman has positioned itself as the country’s only fully digital-first operator, powered by a 100% cloud-based 5G network. The company has achieved full market penetration with its award-winning My Vodafone App—downloaded over 4 million times—and now commands around 10% of the market share. With a strong retail and digital presence, Vodafone Oman continues to align with Oman Vision 2040, driving digital transformation, local talent development, and economic growth.
