BTCL to Launch Bangladesh’s First Triple-Play and Quad-Play Telecom Services

Bangladesh Telecommunications Company Limited (BTCL) is preparing to introduce triple-play and quad-play services for the first time in the country, a move expected to transform communication and entertainment access. The initiative was announced by Faiz Ahmad Taiyeb, chief advisor’s special assistant on ICT, in a Facebook post.

Triple-play services combine unlimited video, voice, and high-speed internet, while quad-play adds wireless connectivity. According to Taiyeb, BTCL will deliver unlimited voice calls through its MVNO, mobile SIMs, and the Alap IP Phone service, subject to certain conditions. Unlimited data will be provided via BTCL’s GPON and ISP networks.

For video, subscribers will be able to access OTT platforms such as Bong, Chorki, and Hoichoi for unlimited entertainment, with future integration of Netflix or Amazon Prime under consideration. Taiyeb noted this approach will also help combat piracy issues faced by OTT providers in Bangladesh.

To expand 5G access, BTCL plans to sell 5G-enabled smartphones on installment, with devices available for as little as Tk 500 per month under a one-year package with a small upfront deposit. This measure aims to address affordability and device accessibility challenges.

Taiyeb emphasized that the government-owned operator intends to “revolutionize” communication by removing barriers caused by limited data, voice, content, and device restrictions. BTCL is expected to release detailed plans in October.
