The GSMA has announced a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Ooredoo, naming the Qatari operator as the Strategic Operator Partner for MWC25 Doha, the newest regional hub for global connectivity.
Headquartered in Doha, Ooredoo is the country’s leading communications provider and a regional market leader. The company is expanding its role into digital infrastructure, investing heavily in advanced connectivity, subsea cables, data centres, cloud ecosystems, and fintech platforms. Qatar was also the first nation to launch commercial 5G via Ooredoo, a milestone highlighting both national and corporate innovation leadership.
As Strategic Operator Partner, Ooredoo will also exhibit at MWC Doha, showcasing its expertise in next-generation connectivity. The event, organized in partnership with Qatar’s Ministry of Communications and Information Technology (MCIT), will be held on 25–26 November 2025 at the Doha Exhibition and Convention Center.
Spanning three halls, MWC Doha will welcome participants from over 60 countries, including more than 40% at director level and above. Discussions will centre on AI Nexus, Intelligent Economies, and Connected Industries. The event will also feature the regional debut of 4YFN (the GSMA’s startup platform), the GSMA Ministerial Programme, the Digital Leaders Programme, and Smart City Expo, the world’s leading urban innovation forum.
John Hoffman, CEO of GSMA Ltd., praised Ooredoo’s role: “Their early leadership in AI and 5G, and continued investment in innovation make them an ideal Strategic Operator Partner for MWC Doha, as we gather the international ecosystem in Qatar for the very first time.”
Hilal Bin Mohammed Al Khulaifi, Group Chief Legal, Regulatory & Governance Officer at Ooredoo, added: “Hosting MWC in Doha is a milestone for our region. As we evolve from a telco into a digital infrastructure leader, we see this event as a platform to showcase our role in shaping the next era of digital progress.”
