Colombo — SLT-Mobitel, Sri Lanka’s national ICT solutions provider, has emerged from financial uncertainty to become a strategic enabler of the country’s digital future, reporting a strong turnaround in the first half of 2025 and outlining bold plans to drive digitalisation, 5G adoption, and inclusive growth.
Once considered for divestment, the company has staged a dramatic recovery: a loss of Rs. 323 million was reversed into a profit of Rs. 4.28 billion, with revenue climbing to Rs. 55.2 billion and EBITDA rising to Rs. 21.7 billion. According to Dr. Mothilal De Silva, SLT Group Chairman, this financial stability is empowering the operator to invest heavily in next-generation infrastructure.
Driving Public Sector Digitalisation
SLT-Mobitel plays a central role in e-governance, managing the Lanka Government Network (LGN) and Lanka Government Cloud (LGC). Together, these platforms provide secure inter-agency connectivity, AI-enabled services, and scalable digital solutions for public institutions, strengthening the backbone of national governance.
Launching 5G and Industry Solutions
Following successful trials, SLT-Mobitel is preparing the commercial rollout of Sri Lanka’s 5G network, combining multiple spectrum bands for optimal performance and long-term savings. The service will enable smart cities, IoT-driven industries, autonomous systems, and real-time digital applications, positioning the nation at the forefront of global innovation.
At the business level, SLT-Mobitel is tailoring solutions for startups, SMEs, and enterprises, offering packages like SME Xcelerate and StartSmart that include affordable connectivity, cloud, and cybersecurity services. Large enterprises benefit from secure network infrastructure and cloud-native platforms to scale operations and modernise applications.
Promoting Digital Equity
A strong focus on inclusivity defines SLT-Mobitel’s strategy. The School Fiberisation Project and Gamata Sanniwedanaya rural initiative are expanding connectivity nationwide. The company also supports digital literacy programs, while the National AI Expo and Conference 2025 aims to democratise AI access across the country.
ESG Commitment
SLT-Mobitel has pledged to achieve net-zero carbon emissions by 2040, investing in renewable energy through rooftop solar stations and solar-enabled sites. Governance reforms include an Anti-Bribery and Corruption Policy, reflecting a commitment to transparency and accountability.
Dr. De Silva concluded:
“At SLT-Mobitel, we believe technology must be accessible and usable by all. By bridging the digital divide and empowering every citizen, we are building an inclusive and sustainable digital future for Sri Lanka.”
