Abu Dhabi — The President of the United Arab Emirates, Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, met with OpenAI CEO Sam Altman in Abu Dhabi on Saturday to discuss strengthening collaboration in artificial intelligence research and applications, according to the UAE state news agency.
Talks focused on deepening cooperation between OpenAI and UAE institutions, aligning with the country’s ambition to build an integrated AI ecosystem that supports development plans and drives its transformation into a knowledge-based economy.
The UAE has been investing heavily in AI, committing billions to projects such as one of the world’s largest AI data centers and the launch of a new Arabic-language AI model. The country is also leveraging its strong ties with the United States to expand access to AI technologies.
In May, the UAE and the U.S. announced an agreement to establish one of the largest AI campuses outside the U.S., unveiled during former U.S. President Donald Trump’s visit to Abu Dhabi.
