Riyadh — Viper Networks and Apollo International (INT’L) have successfully completed the pilot deployment of smart city infrastructure in Saudi Arabia, showcasing advanced technologies aligned with the Kingdom’s Vision 2030.
The rollout features Viper’s Community product line and Apollo’s smart lighting systems, including smart poles equipped with 5G radio access equipment, LED advertising panels, and cameras. These multi-purpose poles can support a wide range of applications such as traffic control, parking meters, security cameras, sensors, radar, advertising, and public/private WiFi, enabling both cost savings and new revenue streams for municipalities, enterprises, and mobile operators.
Dr. Tom Otrok, CEO of Apollo INT’L, said:
“We are very pleased to announce the deployment of the pilot project. The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia is a growing market seeking state-of-the-art technologies as defined by Vision 2030.”
To localize production, Apollo INT’L and its partner House of Invention (HOI) are in talks with Viper Networks to begin manufacturing and assembly within Saudi Arabia, targeting wider adoption across the Middle East and North Africa.
This pilot is the second of three global projects underway. The first, launched in Colombo, Sri Lanka, in July 2024, included 108 smart poles with Apollo lighting. Viper Networks CEO Erik Levitt described the Community line as the “physical foundation” of the company’s Everything Wireless: Telecom+Energy strategy, integrating 5G, IoT, M2M, OTT, mobility, smart cities, and renewable energy.
Viper Networks Chairman Farid Shouekani added that follow-on projects from current pilots, including one in the United States, will be announced later this quarter.
