Dubai, October 8, 2025 — The UAE Space Agency has announced that the country has invested nearly AED 44 billion (USD 12 billion) in the space sector, underscoring its commitment to becoming one of the world’s top ten destinations for space-related companies by 2031.
Speaking at a Dubai Airshow 2025 press briefing, Dr. Ahmad Belhoul Al Falasi, Minister of Sports and Chairman of the UAE Space Agency, highlighted the growing momentum of the UAE’s space economy, powered by strong government backing and an increasingly active private sector.
Public-Private Synergy Driving Growth
Dr. Al Falasi noted that while the government initially shouldered much of the space sector’s development, private companies are now emerging as vital contributors, spanning large corporations to small and medium enterprises (SMEs).
“Many nations began with government-led investments, but empowered their private sectors to become equal partners — today, we are following the same path,” he said.
Private sector participation has doubled at this year’s Dubai Airshow, with the exhibition’s SME pavilion expanding by more than 60%, reflecting growing national engagement and capacity.
Strengthening International Cooperation
The UAE Space Agency will host 15 heads of international space agencies during the Airshow, positioning the event as a global platform for collaboration and knowledge exchange. The UAE is pursuing bilateral and trilateral agreements with international counterparts to boost cooperation in satellite technology, research, and innovation.
“International partnerships are essential for the success of any national space industry,” Dr. Al Falasi emphasized.
Empowering Local Innovation and AI Applications
Most Emirati firms currently focus on AI-driven space applications and data analytics, providing services in urban planning, environmental monitoring, and groundwater assessment through satellite imagery. As local expertise matures, several companies are advancing into satellite manufacturing and space component production, marking a significant technological leap.
The UAE Space Agency continues to support startups and innovators by offering a legislative framework, logistical assistance, and intellectual property protection, ensuring a conducive environment for sustained innovation and investment.
Vision 2031: Becoming a Global Space Hub
Dr. Al Falasi reaffirmed that the Agency’s strategic vision is to position the UAE among the top global hubs for space and future technologies by 2031. The nation’s expanding ecosystem — encompassing AI, Earth observation, and commercial satellite ventures — cements its reputation as a leader in the regional and global space economy.
