General Shaikh Rashid bin Abdullah Al Khalifa, Bahrain’s Minister of Interior, inaugurated the first Middle East International Border Management and Technology Conference, organized in partnership with the International Border Management and Technologies Association (IBMATA). The landmark event gathered senior officials, security experts, and technology leaders from over 22 countries to strengthen cooperation on border security and innovation.
In his keynote address, the minister emphasized that the summit marks a major milestone in advancing regional and international collaboration on border management and emerging security technologies. He expressed appreciation to His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa for his vision prioritizing citizen-centered development and to His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister, for his leadership in government innovation and excellence.
The minister highlighted the growing complexity of border security amid rapid technological change, noting that threats now extend beyond physical borders into the virtual domain, affecting national security, economies, and social stability. He underscored the importance of integrating AI, big data analytics, smart surveillance, and advanced cybersecurity to transition from reactive monitoring to predictive, intelligence-driven security models.
General Shaikh Rashid also called for enhanced international collaboration to combat terrorism, organized crime, smuggling, and cyber threats through shared information, trust, and coordinated legislation. He praised Bahrain’s progress in modernizing its border systems, improving efficiency and safety while facilitating trade and travel.
Following the opening ceremony, the minister toured the accompanying exhibition, showcasing cutting-edge border management technologies and data analytics solutions. The summit’s sessions focus on integrated border management, trade facilitation, digital identity, and risk management, positioning Bahrain as a regional hub for security innovation and technological advancement.
