SLASSCOM’s IT & BPM Exploration Day Empowers Northern Sri Lankan Youth with Tech Skills and Career Pathways

The Sri Lanka Association for Software and Services Companies (SLASSCOM) successfully hosted the IT & BPM Exploration Day – Northern Region at the University of Vavuniya’s Faculty of Technology, marking another step in its nationwide effort to expand digital literacy and inspire the next generation of tech talent.

Following earlier editions in other provinces, the Northern Region event brought together over 500 participants—including students, teachers, academics, startups, and entrepreneurs—for a day of hands-on learning and collaboration. Supported by the Royal Norwegian Embassy and EY GDS, the program featured interactive sessions such as TechKids and Arduino workshops, STEM for Her initiatives, entrepreneurship discussions, and career development talks.

SLASSCOM Chairperson Shehani Seneviratne said the initiative was about more than awareness—it’s about equipping youth and entrepreneurs “with the mindset and skills to innovate for the future.” Prime One Global Managing Director Sharanyan Sharma praised the collaboration between SLASSCOM, the University of Vavuniya, and industry partners for connecting academic potential with real-world opportunities.

The University of Vavuniya’s Vice Chancellor commended the program’s impact, noting how it opened new pathways for students to engage with the IT and BPM industries. The event underscored SLASSCOM’s commitment to bridging education and industry, ensuring regional communities gain equal access to mentorship, innovation programs, and digital career opportunities.

Through initiatives like the IT & BPM Exploration Day, SLASSCOM continues to strengthen Sri Lanka’s national talent pipeline, nurturing innovation and inclusion as the country advances toward becoming a digitally competitive economy.
