Batelco and BNET Partner on SMW6 and Al-Khaleej Cable Infrastructure

Batelco by Beyon and Bahrain Network (BNET) have signed a strategic agreement to deploy the full landing and inland infrastructure for the SEA-ME-WE 6 (SMW6) and Al-Khaleej submarine cable systems. Announced during Gateway Gulf 2025 in Manama, the partnership marks a major advancement in Bahrain’s digital connectivity and its role as a regional data hub. The agreement was formalised in the presence of H.E. Shaikh Abdulla bin Khalifa Al Khalifa, Chairman of Beyon Group.

Under the deal, BNET will build and manage the critical landing infrastructure, including the sea headwall, beach manhole, and protected fronthaul and backhaul routes connecting the Cable Landing Station (CLS) to the international gateway. This robust framework will integrate SMW6 and Al-Khaleej into Bahrain’s national and global networks, significantly boosting speed, resilience, and capacity.

The deployment is expected to strengthen Bahrain’s position as a strategic node for global data traffic, enhancing cloud service delivery, reducing latency, and supporting the Kingdom’s expanding digital economy. It aligns with national digital transformation goals and accelerates Bahrain’s ambitions in next-generation technologies.

Batelco CEO Maitham Abdulla said the project represents a key milestone for the Kingdom, noting that the new cable systems will elevate Bahrain’s standing as a regional gateway for connectivity. He emphasised that the collaboration with BNET reflects Batelco’s ongoing commitment to advancing Bahrain’s digital infrastructure and supporting long-term economic growth.
