BlueBird Aero Systems, a subsidiary of Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI), has begun training Moroccan engineers and technicians as part of the technology transfer programme supporting the launch of a new SpyX drone production facility in Morocco. The initiative marks a significant milestone in the Kingdom’s growing defense manufacturing sector and strengthens its ambition to develop local high-tech capabilities.
In an announcement on its official LinkedIn page, BlueBird confirmed it hosted Moroccan specialists for an intensive training programme covering the full UAV production process. The programme included advanced technical knowledge-sharing on the manufacturing of the SpyX loitering munition drone—a compact, highly mobile tactical system designed for rapid deployment and precision engagement.
The SpyX platform can be transported and operated by just two soldiers, allowing for automated launch, waypoint navigation, arming and disarming, manual target selection, guided attack, and mission abort capabilities. With a 50-kilometre operational range and up to two hours of autonomous mission time, the system supports warheads of up to 2.5 kg for anti-personnel, anti-vehicle, and anti-tank missions. Its attack speed of 250 km/h enables fast, efficient target engagement.
By establishing SpyX production in Morocco, the project is expected to create specialized jobs, attract foreign investment, and equip Moroccan engineers with advanced defense aerospace skills. It also aligns with Morocco’s broader strategy to modernize its military capabilities while fostering scientific research, technological innovation, and domestic defense industry growth.
