Oman Airports has achieved a global aviation milestone by becoming the first airport operator to implement WiFi 7 technology across all of its facilities. In partnership with Huawei, the upgrade dramatically boosts connectivity performance, offering passengers ultra-fast speeds, reduced latency, and stronger cybersecurity for seamless digital services throughout the travel journey.
The rollout coincides with major aviation innovations in the Gulf, including the GCC’s upcoming “one-stop” air travel system, which will allow citizens to complete immigration and security checks only at their departure point. With the first pilot set for the UAE–Bahrain corridor in December 2025, airports will need to support increased real-time data sharing and biometric processing — areas where WiFi 7 is a critical enabler.
WiFi 7 technology delivers up to five times faster throughput than Wi-Fi 6E, pushing theoretical maximum speeds up to 46Gbps. It enables devices to move intelligently across 6GHz, 5GHz, and 2.4GHz bands to avoid congestion, ensuring smooth streaming, fast downloads, and robust digital verification systems even during peak travel hours.
By strengthening connectivity infrastructure now, Oman Airports says it is future-proofing operations for the next phase of regional travel digitalization, reinforcing the Sultanate’s leadership in aviation technology transformation.
