Iran’s Minister of Information and Communications Technology, Seyyed Sattar Hashemi, has arrived in Baku to participate in the 2025 World Telecommunication Development Conference (WTDC-25), focused on advancing universal, meaningful, and affordable digital connectivity.
Hosted by the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), the conference runs from November 17–28 and gathers over 1,500 participants from around 150 countries. Key topics include cybersecurity, digital skills, artificial intelligence, IoT, and digital health, all seen as critical to global digital transformation.
Iran considers WTDC-25 an opportunity to expand its role in international technology policymaking and strengthen cooperation with regional and global partners. The gathering will also contribute to drafting the Global Digital Development Roadmap for 2026–2029, shaping future priorities in global ICT development.
During the event, Hashemi is set to hold bilateral discussions with officials from Malaysia, India, Pakistan, Algeria, and Azerbaijan, as well as a dedicated meeting with the ITU Secretary-General, as part of Iran’s broader technology diplomacy agenda.
