Nepal Telecom reports decline in profit and revenue in Q1 FY 2082/83

Nepal Telecom (NTC) has posted lower revenue and profit in the first quarter of FY 2082/83, according to its unaudited financial results. The state-owned operator generated total operating revenue of Rs 8.67 arba, down slightly from Rs 8.68 arba a year earlier. Total revenue also declined by 5.89% to Rs 9.47 arba, compared to Rs 10.06 arba in the same period of FY 2081/82.

The company’s profit fell more sharply, dropping 23.82% to Rs 1.32 arba from Rs 1.73 arba previously. EBITDA decreased by 12.29% to Rs 4.75 arba, signaling growing pressure on the operator’s financial structure.

NTC attributed the slowdown to several key factors: continued decline in international call revenue due to OTT services, lower interest income, and increased employee-related expenses driven by pension liability adjustments. The operator also noted rising costs tied to network expansion in remote regions that currently provide minimal financial returns.

Despite fiscal challenges, Nepal Telecom emphasized its long-term strategic plans, including a proposal to offer 30% of its shares to the public within the current fiscal year.
