UAE Advances Secure Communications with First Space-to-Ground Quantum Network

The Technology Innovation Institute (TII) and Space42 have partnered to build the UAE’s first space-to-ground quantum communication network, integrating satellite and ground systems using sovereign Quantum Key Distribution (QKD) technology. The agreement, signed at the Dubai Airshow, marks a major step in strengthening the nation’s cyber resilience and secure digital infrastructure.

Under the partnership, both organizations will co-develop, test, and deploy a space-based QKD system designed to enable ultra-secure data exchange through quantum mechanics. The collaboration will validate quantum communication links via satellite and prepare the technology for future commercial use.

Dr. Najwa Aaraj, CEO of TII, said the partnership represents a major milestone in the UAE’s quantum ambitions, combining research expertise with advanced satellite capabilities to build a national quantum-secure network. Ali Al Hashemi, CEO of Space Services at Space42, added that the joint effort aligns with Space42’s goal of leading non-terrestrial network solutions while advancing next-generation data security.

The agreement outlines a structured plan covering R&D, payload development, satellite integration, and ground operations. Through joint technical work and knowledge sharing, TII and Space42 aim to drive sovereign innovation, develop national talent, and establish the UAE as a global hub for quantum-secure communications.
