HAPSA Nepal Launches CERT Emergency Response App to Strengthen Community Preparedness

HAPSA Nepal has launched its Community Emergency Response Toolkit (CERT) mobile app, a major step toward improving emergency readiness in schools and local communities across Nepal. Introduced at Durbar High School in Kathmandu, the app provides easy-to-understand Nepali-language videos on lifesaving skills such as CPR, choking first aid, bleeding control, burns, fractures, poisoning, and cardiac arrest response. Developed with support from Sadak Saathi, CERT adapts content from the Global Health Media Project, enhanced by HAPSA’s medical experts to ensure it is usable in both rural and urban settings.

The launch event included hands-on CPR and choking first aid training for 40 teachers and students. HAPSA Nepal, a nonprofit committed to equitable emergency care, emphasized its long-term goal of integrating basic emergency skills into the national curriculum. Experts highlighted that rapid community response during choking, cardiac arrest, or trauma can significantly increase survival rates. The event drew representatives from the police, Armed Police Force, Ministries of Health and Education, and other organizations, underscoring broad support for the initiative.
