Pakistan Expands International Internet Capacity to 17 Tbps as New Subsea Cables Advance

Pakistan’s international internet capacity has reached 17.21 Tbps, with 13.01 Tbps currently active across systems operated by PTCL, TWA, Cybernet, and SCO, according to a new PTA briefing. The country is connected globally through major cables including AAE-1, SMW4, IMEWE, TWA1, PEACE, and the Pak-China OFC link, ensuring routing redundancy to Oman, Fujairah, France, and Singapore. Pakistan’s domestic infrastructure now includes 75,967 km of long-haul fiber and 135,506 km of metro fiber. In addition, major subsea projects—2Africa, Africa1 (PTCL), and SMW6 (TWA)—are progressing, expected to dramatically increase bandwidth, lower latency, and improve resilience against regional cable outages.
