UAE’s TII and Space42 to Build First Space-to-Ground Quantum Communication Network

The Technology Innovation Institute (TII), the applied research arm of Abu Dhabi’s ATRC, has announced a major partnership with Space42 to develop the UAE’s first integrated space-to-ground quantum communication network. Signed at the Dubai Airshow 2025, the collaboration marks a strategic milestone in the nation’s push toward quantum-secure digital infrastructure.

The two organisations will co-develop a satellite-based Quantum Key Distribution (QKD) system designed to enable ultra-secure data exchange across ground and space networks. The agreement outlines a comprehensive framework covering payload design, R&D, system testing, satellite integration, ground infrastructure, and in-orbit demonstration of QKD technologies.

Building on TII’s existing quantum research, the partnership will focus on proving secure satellite-to-ground quantum links, paving the way for future commercialisation of quantum-secured space capabilities. The initiative also supports national talent development through technical coordination, joint steering sessions and knowledge-sharing efforts.

The collaboration aims to reinforce the UAE’s ambition to become a global leader in quantum-safe communication, bolstering cyber resilience and laying the foundation for sovereign quantum infrastructure across critical sectors.
