Egypt seeks to deepen technology and AI cooperation with Japan at G20 Summit meeting

Egypt’s Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly met Japan’s newly appointed Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi on the sidelines of the 2025 G20 Summit in Johannesburg, where he emphasized Cairo’s desire to expand cooperation with Japan in advanced technology, artificial intelligence and AI governance.
Madbouly highlighted over 70 years of strong bilateral relations — elevated to a strategic partnership in 2023 — and congratulated Takaichi on becoming Japan’s first female prime minister. He noted Japan’s major contributions to Egyptian development projects, including the Grand Egyptian Museum and longstanding collaboration in education.
The prime minister also expressed interest in boosting economic ties and expanding trilateral cooperation involving JICA, the Egyptian Agency of Partnership for Development and African nations.
Takaichi affirmed Japan’s appreciation for the relationship and expressed readiness to deepen cooperation across multiple sectors, building on recent high-level exchanges.
