Salam and AFR-IX Telecom have confirmed that development of the Medusa Submarine Cable System is progressing on schedule, following updates shared during Connected World 2025 in Riyadh. As Saudi Arabia’s International Gateway Partner, Salam is managing terrestrial backhaul, interconnection, and capacity services for the system’s landing in the Kingdom — a role that aligns with Vision 2030 ambitions to position Saudi Arabia as a major global digital hub.
Medusa, spanning 8,700 km and connecting 11 countries across Europe, North Africa, and the Middle East, is the Mediterranean’s longest subsea cable. Built with ROADM and SDM technologies and offering 480 Tbps of total capacity, it will significantly enhance regional bandwidth, improve resilience, and support cloud and hyperscaler growth across Saudi Arabia and the wider Mediterranean basin.
By combining Salam’s terrestrial network and data-centre infrastructure with AFR-IX Telecom’s subsea cable expertise, the partnership strengthens cross-regional digital corridors and marks a major step forward in the development of next-generation connectivity infrastructure.
