Sri Lanka Integrates Cybersecurity Principles into National Digital Blueprint

Sri Lanka has embedded strong cybersecurity foundations into its new digital economy blueprint, recognizing that digital competitiveness and protection against the fast-growing global scam economy must go hand in hand. Speaking at the National Cyber Security Conference in Colombo, Chief Advisor to the President on Digital Economy, Dr. Hans Wijayasuriya, said the country must compete not only with global digital economies but also with a trillion-dollar scam economy—60% of which operates in Asia.

He emphasized that modern competitiveness is driven by digital strength, AI adoption, and cyber resilience. Sri Lanka’s digital blueprint is designed as an “AI-first” framework that integrates trust, inclusion, and cybersecurity from the start, ensuring secure digital public infrastructure and strengthening national economic growth.

The strategy aims to elevate Sri Lanka’s global rankings in areas such as cyber resilience, digital trust, and secure digital transformation. Officials stressed that cybersecurity is now a cornerstone of economic development rather than just a technical requirement.
