Tawazun, EDGE, Lockheed Martin and Khalifa University sign LOI to build national chiplet-based microelectronics ecosystem in Abu Dhabi

Tawazun Council, EDGE Group, Khalifa University and Lockheed Martin have signed a letter of intent (LOI) to launch the UAE’s first fully integrated ecosystem for chiplet-based microelectronics design and production. Announced during Dubai Airshow 2025, the initiative aims to strengthen the nation’s sovereign semiconductor capabilities, support advanced defence technologies, and establish a world-class R&D and talent pipeline in Abu Dhabi.
The partnership underscores deepening UAE–US technological ties and reinforces Tawazun’s mission to empower the UAE’s defence industries through innovation, knowledge transfer and a robust semiconductor infrastructure. The programme includes a 16-month semiconductor training initiative with Arizona State University that will graduate over 60 Emirati engineers, alongside the creation of a new national Centre of Excellence for semiconductor research.
Representatives from Tawazun, Lockheed Martin, Khalifa University and EDGE highlighted the collaboration as a pivotal step in scaling the UAE’s next-generation microelectronics capability—from AI hardware and neuromorphic computing to advanced mission computers for aerospace and defence. EDGE also confirmed plans to integrate chiplet technology into future smart weapons production.
The LOI marks the beginning of a coordinated national effort to localise high-value semiconductor expertise, deepen industrial partnerships, and accelerate the UAE’s transformation into a regional hub for advanced microelectronics.
