Starlink to Deliver High-Speed Connectivity to Schools Across Bangladesh’s Hill Districts

The Bangladesh Satellite Company Limited (BSCL), the authorised reseller of Starlink in Bangladesh, has signed three separate agreements to bring satellite internet connectivity to primary and secondary schools in Khagrachhari, Bandarban and Rangamati. The initiative aims to reduce long-standing digital learning gaps in the hill tracts, where geography and poor network coverage have limited student access to online education.

Under the agreements with the respective hill district councils, schools will begin receiving Starlink terminals in phases. Several terminals have already arrived, and installation work is underway. Once active, students will have reliable, high-speed internet access to join online classes, engage with digital content and participate in virtual lessons—opportunities previously out of reach for many learners in these remote regions.

Officials noted that the project aligns with the government’s broader commitment to expanding technology-driven education in the hill tracts. BSCL Managing Director and CEO Muhammad Imadur Rahman said the agreements “open a new opportunity for education in the hill regions,” supporting efforts to build a skilled and digitally empowered generation.

Initially, terminals will be delivered to 100 schools, with a target of expanding coverage to 450 institutions. District council offices will cover the service expenses, ensuring that remote schools can adopt the technology without financial burden.

Starlink received its operating licence on April 29 and began test operations shortly after. It officially announced its Bangladesh launch on May 20 through its X (formerly Twitter) account. The initiative represents one of the first large-scale deployments of Starlink in the country’s education sector.
