Pakistan Gears Up for 5G Launch as Spectrum Auction Nears

Pakistan is moving closer to the launch of 5G services, with the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) confirming that preparations for the long-awaited spectrum auction are complete. The auction is expected to be held before Ramazan, pending formal approval from the federal government.

According to PTA officials, the authority will soon submit a request for government clearance, after which the process is expected to move quickly. The Information Memorandum (IM), outlining auction terms and conditions, is scheduled to be issued within the next 10 to 15 days. Telecom operators will then be given a 45-day window to prepare and submit their bids.

If the IM is released by January 1, the 5G spectrum auction could take place around February 15, paving the way for a commercial rollout ahead of Ramazan. Industry experts view the development as a major step toward strengthening Pakistan’s digital infrastructure, enabling faster internet speeds, supporting emerging technologies, and unlocking new opportunities for businesses and consumers.
