Pakistan to Launch First-Ever National IT Industry Census

The Pakistan Software Export Board (PSEB), operating under the Ministry of IT and Telecommunication, is set to launch Pakistan’s first National IT Industry Census to develop a comprehensive, verified picture of the country’s IT and IT-enabled services sector. The nationwide initiative aims to collect structured data on the size, composition, and capabilities of the industry.

According to PSEB, the census will gather detailed information on IT and IT-enabled services companies, including workforce size, areas of specialization, geographic presence, and operational scale. The initiative is designed to close long-standing data gaps by replacing estimates with a unified, credible national database.

The census will support evidence-based policymaking by enabling the government to design more targeted regulations, incentives, and development frameworks aligned with the sector’s real needs. It is also expected to improve planning around exports, skills development, infrastructure expansion, and investment promotion, while helping identify emerging IT hubs and underserved regions. PSEB said the findings will be shared with policymakers and industry bodies to guide strategic decision-making.
