Zain Bahrain Expands Ericsson Partnership to Deploy Advanced 5G Edge Solutions

Zain Bahrain has expanded its strategic partnership with Ericsson to introduce advanced 5G capabilities in the Kingdom, including Ericsson’s Local Packet Gateway solution with Edge User Plane technology. The deployment is designed to strengthen Bahrain’s network infrastructure and support the country’s digital economy ambitions by enabling faster, more secure, and resilient connectivity.

The new 5G solutions are expected to deliver ultra-low latency and optimized network performance, supporting high-demand enterprise and government use cases. By bringing traffic closer to end users through edge capabilities, the solution enables real-time applications and more efficient data handling across Zain Bahrain’s network.

Zain Bahrain stated that the enhanced network will support Industry 4.0 technologies, including AI-driven predictive maintenance, autonomous systems, and real-time monitoring. These capabilities are intended to help organizations streamline operations, improve efficiency, and enhance overall productivity across key industrial sectors.

Commenting on the partnership, Ammar Al Ketbi, Acting CEO of Zain Bahrain, said the collaboration with Ericsson represents a key milestone in advancing Bahrain’s digital ecosystem and enabling intelligent connectivity for enterprises and industries. Petra Schirren, President Gulf at Ericsson Europe, Middle East and Africa, noted that the deployment of the Local Packet Gateway with Edge User Plane technology enables advanced use cases that require near-instant connectivity and strong network performance, reinforcing Ericsson’s commitment to delivering next-generation network solutions.
