Edotco Services Lanka has deployed 400 shared backup power systems across Sri Lanka to strengthen telecom network reliability during natural disasters and prolonged power outages. The resilient power infrastructure supports all three mobile operators—Dialog Axiata, Hutch, and SLT-Mobitel—reducing duplication while improving operational efficiency and service continuity.
The systems include extended battery backup, rectifiers, standby generators, power cabins, and alternate power modules, all engineered with defined mean time to respond targets for rapid restoration. Announced shortly before Christmas, the rollout represents an investment of LKR 500 million (approximately US$1.7 million) and focuses on protecting mission-critical telecom sites during grid failures, extreme weather, and national emergencies.
The initiative follows severe disruption caused by Cyclone Ditwah, which impacted more than 2,000 telecom sites and left several districts without mobile and data services for up to five days. Edotco cited prolonged grid outages, flooding, fibre cuts, and restricted site access as key causes of service disruption.
Edotco plans to expand the deployment to 1,000 sites by mid-2026, with total investment expected to reach LKR 1.2 billion, reinforcing Sri Lanka’s digital resilience as climate-related risks intensify.
