PTA Warns Consumers: Responsibility for SIM Misuse Lies with Registered Users

The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has reiterated that all SIM cards must be registered in the name of the actual user, warning that the use of SIMs registered to another individual violates telecom regulations. Any misuse of a SIM, the regulator said, will be the sole responsibility of the registered holder.

In a statement issued on Thursday, PTA emphasized that consumers are individually accountable for all calls, messages, and data usage conducted through their SIMs or connected devices. Failure to comply with registration and usage rules may result in enforcement action under applicable laws.

The authority also urged telecom users to exercise responsible conduct and remain vigilant against misuse, stressing that public cooperation is essential to maintaining the security, stability, and reliability of Pakistan’s telecommunications ecosystem.
