e& UAE has upgraded the core of its EMIX IP transit platform to 400G connectivity in collaboration with Cisco, responding to sustained traffic growth exceeding 20% annually. The upgrade was implemented across the UAE core network using 400G-enabled Ethernet line cards on Cisco’s modular ASR9000 Aggregation Services Routers.
According to e& UAE, the move significantly increases network capacity while reducing end-to-end latency, improving performance and cost efficiency for carriers, ISPs, and mobile operators across the MENA region. The enhanced infrastructure is designed to support rising data demands driven by cloud services, hyperscalers, and AI-intensive workloads.
As part of the broader multi-year transformation programme, the upgrade also introduces AI and machine-learning-driven network automation. These capabilities enable intent-based, closed-loop operations that accelerate service provisioning, reduce manual intervention, and improve overall network reliability as traffic volumes continue to scale.
Khalid Al Khaja, Vice President of Business and IP Core at e& UAE, said the transition to 400G provides customers with greater capacity headroom, lower latency, and improved unit economics as traffic patterns increasingly shift toward AI-driven applications. He added that e& UAE plans to extend the 400G upgrade to EMIX’s international points of presence as part of its ongoing roadmap.
