Minister Kharel Inaugurates Ncell’s VoLTE Capacity Enhancement Project in Pokhara

Nepal’s Minister for Communication and Information Technology, Jagdish Kharel, has inaugurated Ncell’s VoLTE Capacity Enhancement Project at the company’s data center in Pokhara, marking a significant step in strengthening the country’s advanced voice services. The project was officially launched with the activation of Ncell’s IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS), a core platform that enables high-quality VoLTE and Voice over WiFi services.

The newly deployed IMS system is powered by high-end servers designed to improve the performance, capacity, and reliability of Ncell’s VoLTE network. According to Ncell, the enhanced infrastructure will support VoLTE services for up to five million customers nationwide, ensuring more stable HD voice calls over the operator’s 4G network while allowing users to make calls and use mobile data simultaneously.

The project also strengthens Ncell’s Voice over WiFi capability, enabling subscribers to make HD voice calls using WiFi networks, which is particularly valuable in areas with weak or limited cellular coverage. During his visit, Minister Kharel inspected the Pokhara data center and met with senior Ncell executives, including Chief Corporate and Regulatory Officer Dilliram Shrestha and Corporate Communications and Sustainability Director Bishakha Laxmi Khadka.

Praising the facility, Minister Kharel highlighted the role of advanced telecom infrastructure in Nepal’s digital transformation. He said the data center represents a key component of the country’s digitalisation efforts and contributes directly to the government’s vision of building a Digital Nepal through reliable and future-ready communications infrastructure.
