Nepal Telecom Expands 86 Towers to Improve Rural Connectivity in Karnali Province

Nepal Telecom has expanded its telecommunications infrastructure across remote areas of Karnali Province, installing and upgrading a total of 86 towers in the districts of Jumla, Kalikot, and Mugu to strengthen network coverage and improve access to communication services.

According to Paras Pujara, Head of Nepal Telecom’s branch office in Jumla, the expansion includes 45 towers in Jumla, 22 in Kalikot, and 19 in Mugu. The initiative is aimed at extending telephone and internet services to rural and hard-to-reach communities that have long remained underserved.

A newly constructed Nepal Telecom tower in Hima Rural Municipality of Jumla has now become operational, bringing telephone and 4G internet services to residents who previously had no reliable connectivity. Hima Rural Municipality Chairman Laxman Bahadur Shahi confirmed that services began operating after the completion of tower construction earlier this week.

While fibre internet services are currently available only in the district headquarters of Khalanga, Nepal Telecom said work is underway to extend fibre connectivity to all eight local levels within the district. The company’s Karnali Provincial Directorate in Surkhet noted that communication services have so far been extended to 37 local units across the province.

The tower expansion forms part of Nepal Telecom’s broader efforts to bridge the digital divide in Karnali by improving mobile and data connectivity in geographically challenging regions.
