Oman advances logistics, digital economy goals under Vision 2040

The Sultanate of Oman is recording steady progress across transport, logistics, and digital transformation, aligning closely with the objectives of Oman Vision 2040, according to a semi-annual performance bulletin issued by the Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology.

The bulletin reports that total investment in the transport and logistics sector reached RO 2.3 billion between 2021 and 2024, with projections rising to RO 3.4 billion for the 2021–2025 period. This reflects sustained momentum in infrastructure and services supporting Oman’s positioning as a global logistics hub.

On the digital front, government service automation has accelerated. By the end of 2024, 1,700 of 2,523 basic services had been digitised. This figure is expected to reach 2,277 services by the end of 2025, improving efficiency and accessibility across public institutions.

Omanisation levels also improved. Employment of Omani nationals in the IT sector increased from 38 percent in 2024 to 45.5 percent in 2025. In transport and logistics, Omanisation rose from 20 percent to 21.6 percent over the same period.

Trade and port activity showed strong growth. Container handling increased from 4.3 million TEUs in 2024 to over 5 million TEUs in 2025. General cargo volumes rose from 115.7 million tonnes to more than 143 million tonnes, highlighting expanding port throughput and trade flows.

Under the National Digital Transformation Programme, overall performance improved from 73 percent in 2024 to 94 percent in 2025, reflecting accelerated implementation across government entities.

Revenue indicators were also positive, with land transport revenues rising by 18 percent, ports by 12.9 percent, and maritime affairs by 6.5 percent.

The ministry noted that 85 percent of infrastructure projects under the annual implementation plan had been completed by 2025, exceeding the 70 percent target.

The bulletin highlights Oman’s continued focus on building a diversified, digitally enabled economy while strengthening its competitiveness as a regional and international logistics centre.
