Zerrouki appointed member of Africa AI Council Saturday, January 24, 2026 – 19:50

ALGIERS – Minister of Post and Telecommunications Sid Ali Zerrouki took part on Saturday in the inaugural meeting of the Africa Artificial Intelligence Council, a high-level continental body established by the Smart Africa Alliance.

The participation followed Zerrouki’s appointment as a member of the Council, according to a statement issued by the Ministry. The Africa AI Council brings together senior policymakers and leaders from across the continent to shape Africa’s collective strategy on artificial intelligence, digital transformation, and emerging technologies.

The Council is expected to play a central role in defining policy frameworks, promoting cooperation among African states, and positioning the continent as an active player in the global AI landscape. Zerrouki’s appointment places Algeria within the core decision-making circle guiding Africa’s AI future.

The Smart Africa Alliance, which spearheaded the creation of the Council, aims to accelerate sustainable socio-economic development across the continent through the use of information and communication technologies, with artificial intelligence now emerging as a strategic pillar of that agenda.

Zerrouki’s participation in the inaugural session signals Algeria’s intent to engage more deeply in continental digital policy and contribute to shaping Africa’s AI governance, innovation pathways, and technological sovereignty.
