Chad and Azerbaijan agree to cooperate on satellite services

Chad’s Electronic Communications and Postal Regulatory Authority (ARCEP) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Azerbaijan’s state space agency, Azercosmos, to strengthen bilateral collaboration in satellite and space-enabled digital services.

The agreement outlines cooperation across spectrum management, geographic information systems, remote sensing, satellite communications, satellite operations, ground infrastructure, and the regulatory frameworks governing these areas. Both parties will also explore commercial opportunities in telecoms, video broadcasting, data services, teleports, and ground stations.

A key focus of the MoU is the integration of space technologies with artificial intelligence and earth observation services to support digital transformation and innovation. The two entities also agreed to work on developing innovation hubs and promoting the export of digital products.

Capacity building forms an important pillar of the partnership, with plans for training programs, educational initiatives for teachers and students through the Azercosmos SPACE Academy, summer schools, and educational satellite programs.

The MoU was signed during an official visit to Azerbaijan led by Dr Boukar Michel, Chad’s Minister of Telecommunications, Digital Economy and Digitalisation of Administration.
