Oman Lens has launched a National Capability Building Programme in Space Technology aimed at developing local expertise in satellite engineering and supporting the Sultanate’s ambitions under Oman Vision 2040 to build a sustainable space and advanced manufacturing ecosystem.
The initiative targets Omani students, academics and engineers, offering hands-on training across the full satellite development lifecycle, including assembly, testing, operations and deployment. The programme is designed to strengthen national technical capabilities while creating a long-term knowledge base to support future space projects and innovation in Earth observation and remote sensing technologies.
The programme will be implemented in two phases, with initial training conducted in Oman focusing on engineering model development, followed by advanced practical training in China where participants will work on assembling the satellite’s final flight model and preparing it for operational deployment.
Oman Lens described the initiative as a strategic step toward enhancing national competencies, expanding international collaboration and positioning Oman as an emerging contributor to regional and global space technology development
