The Nepal Telecommunication Authority (NTA) utilized only 11 percent of its allocated budget during the first half of fiscal year 2082/83, highlighting administrative challenges and implementation delays within the country’s telecommunications sector. The authority spent a small portion of its total budget of Rs 78.35 crore, raising concerns about project execution and regulatory efficiency.

The low utilization rate reflects broader operational and administrative bottlenecks affecting the sector, including delays in project approvals, procurement processes, and coordination challenges across relevant institutions. Industry observers note that underutilization of allocated funds can slow infrastructure development and delay initiatives aimed at improving connectivity and expanding digital services.

The development comes at a time when telecom regulators across the region are accelerating investments in digital infrastructure, spectrum management, and broadband expansion to support growing demand for data services and digital transformation. Limited spending capacity may affect the pace of modernization and the rollout of new telecom initiatives if implementation challenges persist.

Addressing administrative constraints and improving execution efficiency is expected to remain a priority for the authority to ensure that planned investments translate into tangible improvements in telecommunications infrastructure and service delivery across Nepal.
