Pakistan’s leading telecom operator Jazz has signed a new agreement with the Universal Service Fund (USF) to expand digital connectivity across underserved areas of Badin district in Sindh. The initiative aims to improve access to reliable voice and high-speed mobile broadband services while supporting broader digital inclusion efforts across rural communities.
The PKR668 million project will see Jazz deploy 45 new telecom sites and upgrade four existing locations, extending connectivity to 144 unserved and underserved mauzas and benefiting an estimated population of 430,000 people. The network expansion is expected to enhance access to digital financial services, online education, telehealth, and government e-services, while also enabling small businesses and farmers to leverage digital tools for growth.
Jazz stated that the rollout will contribute to local economic development by generating both direct and indirect employment during deployment and operational phases. The initiative also aligns with national efforts to strengthen digital infrastructure and bridge connectivity gaps in remote regions.
The agreement follows a series of recent USF awards to Jazz, including contracts worth PKR1.16 billion aimed at expanding high-speed broadband services across nine districts in Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The continued collaboration between Jazz, the USF, and the Ministry of IT & Telecom reflects ongoing efforts to extend digital access to communities that remain on the margins of Pakistan’s digital economy.
Industry stakeholders noted that expanding broadband coverage in districts such as Badin plays a critical role in enabling socio-economic development, improving access to essential services, and creating new opportunities at the grassroots level through reliable connectivity infrastructure.
