RIYADH — King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz University Hospital (KAAUH) has successfully upgraded its Electronic Medical Record (EMR) system to the latest version of the InterSystems TrakCare unified health information platform, marking a significant step in the hospital’s digital transformation journey and efforts to enhance patient-centered care.
The upgrade introduces the mobile-enabled user interface (MEUI), enabling clinicians to access patient data securely across devices and care settings. The system is designed to improve usability, strengthen data quality, and streamline both clinical and administrative workflows, allowing healthcare professionals to operate from a unified information environment that supports faster and more informed decision-making.
KAAUH, a 406-bed teaching and referral hospital located at Princess Nourah bint Abdulrahman University, provides specialised services in women’s health and pediatric care while integrating clinical practice, research, and education. The EMR upgrade aligns with broader healthcare transformation goals in Saudi Arabia, supporting improved patient safety, operational efficiency, and care outcomes through digital innovation.
The implementation involved collaboration between multidisciplinary hospital teams and InterSystems, supported by comprehensive training and user engagement initiatives to ensure smooth adoption of the new system. Hospital leadership emphasised that successful digital health transformation depends not only on technology deployment but also on effective user adoption and workflow alignment.
The upgraded platform also enhances interoperability through integration with third-party systems and supports compliance with the National Platform for Health and Insurance Exchange Services (NPHIES), a unified electronic services initiative aimed at improving healthcare quality and efficiency across the Kingdom. The digital foundation is expected to support future adoption of advanced capabilities, including AI-driven healthcare application
