Web Summit Qatar 2026 renews push to build a global tech hub

DOHA — Web Summit Qatar 2026 opened in Doha with renewed momentum behind the country’s ambition to position itself as a global technology and innovation hub, supported by new funding commitments, policy incentives, and expanding international participation. The event highlighted how capital, talent, and regulatory support are converging to accelerate the development of Qatar’s startup ecosystem.

A key announcement during the summit included an additional $2 billion allocation to Qatar’s Fund of Funds, aimed at increasing investment capacity for startups and venture capital initiatives. The government also introduced a new 10-year residency programme designed to attract entrepreneurs, innovators, and technology talent, reinforcing efforts to build a sustainable innovation environment.

The summit drew more than 30,000 attendees from 127 countries, reflecting growing global interest in Qatar’s technology ecosystem. Initiatives such as Startup Qatar were showcased as central components of the country’s strategy, having already attracted thousands of applications and supported emerging companies through funding and ecosystem support programmes.

Industry leaders highlighted how digital transformation continues to reshape sectors including finance, logistics, and artificial intelligence, with global technology companies and regional success stories demonstrating the region’s capacity to scale innovation-driven businesses. Startups operating in areas such as fintech, robotics, and physical AI were presented as examples of emerging technologies gaining traction within the regional ecosystem.
