Colombo – February 18, 2026: Sri Lanka has introduced its first-ever mobile billing solution for motor insurance, following a partnership between Fairfirst Insurance and SLT-Mobitel.
The new offering allows motorists to purchase and renew motor insurance policies directly through their mobile connections. Customers can complete transactions anytime and anywhere, without the need for physical documentation or visits to insurance offices.
Billing is seamlessly integrated into customers’ existing Mobitel mobile accounts, providing a simplified and secure payment process. The solution is designed to enhance transparency and convenience, making insurance more accessible through digital channels.
The initiative is also expected to expand insurance penetration in rural areas by leveraging Sri Lanka’s established mobile infrastructure. By embedding insurance payments into mobile billing systems, the model reduces barriers to access and simplifies policy management for users.
The launch marks a step forward in the digitalisation of Sri Lanka’s insurance sector, combining telecommunications infrastructure with financial services to improve distribution and customer experience.
