Paratus Zambia Rolls Out Tarana’s Fibre-Class Fixed Wireless Technology

Paratus Zambia has deployed next-generation fixed wireless access (FWA) equipment from US-based Tarana Wireless, aiming to deliver fibre-like internet speeds to homes and businesses nationwide.

The company announced that Tarana’s ngFWA platform can provide link capacities of up to 1.6 Gbps, maintaining strong performance even in areas with heavy interference or network congestion. The technology operates across the 3 GHz, 5 GHz and 6 GHz spectrum bands and incorporates distributed massive MIMO, multipath integration and real-time interference cancellation to achieve high-speed, reliable connectivity. Tarana’s base and remote nodes are centrally managed through its cloud-based management platform.

Paratus Zambia said the new solution enhances its existing infrastructure, offering customers a more stable and consistent online experience, particularly during peak usage periods and in locations where deploying physical fibre may be costly or impractical.

Country manager Marius van Vuuren said the partnership allows the company to deliver high-performance connectivity without the expense and delays associated with laying fibre cables. He noted that both businesses and households increasingly demand dependable, high-speed internet for cloud services, streaming and other data-intensive applications.

The deployment represents Tarana’s first customer win in Zambia. The company has previously supplied technology used in services such as MTN’s Unlimited Air Fibre, launched in 2021, and last year partnered with Microsoft to support rural and underserved telecom deployments across Africa with approved equipment, training and technical assistance.
